Here are some tips for what to plant and how to create cut arrangements that last.Our favourite cutting-garden bulbs for spring planting and summer blooms include lilies, dahlias, calla lilies, gladiolus and crocosmias.Choose blooms that are just beginning to open, as well as some buds that will open soon. Bulbs with multiple flowers per stem, like lilies and crocosmias, should be cut when the first few buds open; the others will open while on display.The best time for cutting is early morning or in the evening. Carry a water-filled container with you and immerse the stems in the water as soon as they are cut. Use a sharp knife for cutting so you don't crush the flower stem.After cutting, wrap your flowers in bunches in newspaper and place the bundles upright in a waterfilled container. Allow them to stand for several hours or overnight.
